Michael Founds
Senior Ecohydrologist
Michael is a hydrologist dedicated to reconnecting floodplains by integrating science, people, and technology. He specializes in surface–groundwater interactions and the design of systems that enhance flood and groundwater resilience amid evolving climate and management conditions. Michael has led projects on post-fire flood hydrology, climate adaptation, and systemwide planning for multi-benefit levee setback projects. He excels at building collaborative partnerships among state and federal agencies along with local partners to solve complex water resource challenges. His technical expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling is complemented by a strong understanding of the social dimensions of water resilience, and unbridled enthusiasm for rivers. Outside of work, Michael’s love for outdoor adventures has led to an arguably unreasonable number of hobbies. His perfect day might involve waking up in the backcountry, floating down a river while fishing and birding, then scrambling to the top of a peak just in time for sunset.
