Katie Kobayashi, PhD
Fisheries Biologist
Katie is a fisheries biologist and science communicator with experience leading research, education, and outreach projects focused on the biology and conservation of aquatic ecosystems. Katie recently completed her doctoral degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she investigated the effects of rapid environmental change on the ecology and evolution of coastal steelhead/rainbow trout. Her research experience includes examining: the causes and consequences of salmonid life history variation; impacts of barriers on fish migration; effects of wildfire on coastal stream ecology; and the relationship between food web dynamics and salmonid resilience. Katie also offers extensive expertise in data visualization, graphic design, and multi-modal scientific communication, with a demonstrated commitment to accessibility and diverse engagement. In her free time, Katie is likely to be found fly fishing, gardening, snowboarding, or exploring the great outdoors with her dog.
