Pete has 20 years of experience in the fields of watershed-scale effects on sediment production and transport processes, natural and human impacts on river channel morphodynamics and habitats, and river restoration.  He has expertise in a variety of geomorphic assessments techniques, river restoration design and planning within an adaptive management framework, post-project monitoring and evaluation, and integrated watershed planning.  Pete has led geomorphic analyses in the U.S., UK, and New Zealand, encompassing projects with widely contrasting river habitats and very different management objectives, including river channel conservation, fisheries improvement, riparian habitat restoration, flood control, and channel stability.  Pete was awarded the status of Chartered Geographer (Geomorphology) by the Royal Geographical Society in 2005, and holds the honorary position of Special Professor in the School of Geography at the University of Nottingham, UK.  As of summer 2010 he has returned to a full-time faculty position at the University of Plymouth (UK) in the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, but he remains a Principal Scientist here at Stillwater and is active in a variety of ongoing and new projects.
