Stillwater botanists presented at 2010 Northern California Botanists' Symposium

Maintaining California's botanical treasures requires an understanding of ecosystem conservation, invasive species control, and rare plant biology, among other topics. Stillwater contributed two poster presentations. Megan Keever and others highlight "Inventory and Management of Botanical Resources: Data Visualization as a Decision Making Tool" reviewing four case studies, all of which take advantage of different tools to visualize potential impacts to botanical resources and make informed vegetation management and ecosystem restoration decisions. Nicole Jurjavcic and others share  "Adder's Tongue Ferns: Rare Plant Population Monitoring Lessons from Oregon" highlighting results from the first two years of a five-year monitoring study on two rare species in the Adder's Tongue family whose population dynamics are poorly understood. Contributing Stillwater authors to these poster presentations include Sebastian Araya, Emmalien Bout, Zooey Diggory, and Bruce Orr.

The 2010 NCB Symposium took place January 11 - 13 at California State University, Chico.  The conference draws hundreds of professional botanists, scholars, and plant biologists from around the state and provides an opportunity for agency representatives, consultants, and academics to present and review the latest issues affecting plant ecology and California vegetation.
